Experimental Support Services – Equipment Availability
The Experimental Support Services (ESS) provide access to shared equipment that enables safe and efficient for our users. All tools are available to trained personnel and can be reserved through the ESS booking system.

ESS maintains gloveboxes for air- and moisture-sensitive sample preparation. Each box is equipped with oxygen and moisture monitoring, integrated antechambers, and essential tools for safe inert-gas handling.
Nitrogen-Filled Gloveboxes
Catalyst handling – sulfur-, phosphorus-, and solvent-free (433-A020)
General-purpose – sulfur free (437-A020)
Argon-Filled Gloveboxes - Available through echem lab
Li-ion battery research – sulfur-free (433-D030)
Na-ion battery research – sulfur-free (437-A020)
Sulfur-containing Li-ion & Na-ion batteries (433-D030)
Solid-state batteries – solvent-free (437-A020) – coming soon

The ESS shared space includes programmable ovens for drying and annealing, hydraulic presses for pellet formation, and a ball mill for homogenizing or grinding solid materials. These tools support routine synthesis and general-purpose material processing under ambient or controlled conditions.

Tools available for wet chemistry and thin-film processing include sonicators for dispersion, centrifuge for separation, UV-Vis spectrometer for quick optical characterization, and spin coaters for uniform film deposition. These instruments support general solution preparation, coatings, and non-battery sample work.

A range of operando electrochemical cells and universal sample holders is available for beamline experiments. Researchers can access CAD files, assembly drawings, and specifications to adapt these for individual beamline geometries. All files are downloadable for design or 3D printing purposes.
